Is it me, or is the cost of a child playing youth soccer getting ridiculous???? Between registration, training, uniforms, tournaments and equipment, we are paying over $2,000/year. This is just for one year of travel soccer with a local soccer team! This is not any advanced soccer program or including any supplemental programs like RR, ODP, PDP...etc. Is this the case everywhere??

This has gotten out of hand with all the leagues in the local area. Is there clearly a better league than the rest??? Clearly a better league? No. There are lots of variables. I would recommend that you begin by selecting a TEAM rather than a league. There is typically no reason to leave your home town when placing your child on a team, especially if they are just starting out. As they grow older you will find that certain teams play in more competitive Divisions and/or more competitive Leagues. Every local League goes beyond their Division 1 with "Premier" Divisions. LIJSL has Premier/NERP and then Region 1. NYCSL has PL and NPL. MAPPS has EDP and NPL. Etc.. Soooo, they all have plenty of options no matter what the soccer level of of your child is. Pick a team that your child is comfortable on. Pick a team where you like the coaches and trainers. And, everything else will fall into place.

However, if you figure that your child is playing an average of 40 weeks/year, 3X/week, it comes out to under $17.00/"session". How does that compare to other sports/recreational activities? Probably about the same, if not less. You also have to take into consideration that each soccer session is approximately 1.5 hrs long compared to others that may be shorter. Compare to other activities that your child/children may be involved in and let us know. We would love to get some feedback.

I keep hearing NPL is the way to go and not EDP, but why are all the top teams going to EDP. Is it because Larry kisses Gary's you know what, so Larry pushes the NPL

Donald Who did you hear it from that NPL is better then EDP from Gary and Larry? or from the people that didn't even play EDP and got brained washed from Gary Grossman.

NPL does have some great competition but my opinion EDP picked up the top teams and the competition is better, and its way more organized then NPL.

I don't know if its me but don't you feel when your playing EDP it seems more legitimate and that the players are in there right age group. It seems like when you play in NYCSL, NPL that there are kids coming in at half time that were sitting on the bench and once the other team is losing that player gets up and he seems older then all the other players, why wouldn't they of put him in the beginning

Edp is the way to go only if you are a top competitive team. Most eny teams play region 1 to qualify for state cup then they have a flexible schedule in edp
