Some of the younger or pre-academy kids are playing both. Once a player is in the Academy Program, HS soccer is not permitted . USSF believes that their best players should be playing Academy only in preparation for higher levels of soccer. ie Professional and National team ball. They feel that HS actually degrades a players game and is a complete waste of time.

Other than a handful of schools that have decent programs and coaches, the rest ARE a waste of time. The soccer sucks, the coaches suck and the training sucks. The US will never have world-class players if the best players get involved in HS (and even College). Academy might have the right idea, but has a long way to go.
